Children's yoga is less about perfecting posture and more about cultivating a sense of empathy, compassion, and self awareness.
Research into several different studies has shown some surprising results about how yoga can help children. Specifically, when it comes to children’s ability to manage and reduce stress or anxiety.
There’s a number of different ways that yoga can help children effectively manage difficult emotions. Breathing techniques are a popular tool for adults to manage stress or anxiety, and children are gaining more and more access to this valuable coping mechanism through Yoga.
Exercise is incredibly important for kids, yet they’re getting less than ever before.Yoga gives children a chance to get up and move around. It gets them out of their chairs and on their feet. It gets their blood pumping and helps them shake off some energy.
In order for kids to really benefit from physical activity, they need to participate and the noncompetitive nature of yoga encourages them to.
Along with their physical development, children are undergoing cognitive development as well. Areas like focus, concentration and creativity can be positively impacted by yoga.Creativity is an important skill that we use to solve tough problems. It doesn’t just help us get through those creative writing seminars. Truthfully, it can help in all areas of our life, including subjects like math, or science. It’s even helpful in social situations.
Laura is a RYT 200 Yoga teacher with a certification in Children's Yoga and has been an elementary school teacher for 24 years. Eager to share the gift of yoga with children, she has been leading Mindful Movment classes at her school the entire 2021/2022 school year, as well as leading school wide movement and meditation for her entire school community both virtually and in person. Classes are now being offered Thursday evenings starting this June at The Cove Healing Centre! Spaces are limited, book your child's classes today!

Initially built as a recreational course in 2013, a budget of just over $ 409,000 was allocated by the City of Montreal just two years later for the complete reconstruction of the track. The redesign involved the participation of the Fédération des sports cyclistes du Québec and professionals in the field. In 2019, further work was done when lights were installed as part of the Programme des installations sportives extérieures (PISE).
The almost three metre-wide course totals 280 linear metres, and includes hydraulic starting gates with lights, 13 jumps, 14 flat and three asphalt curves. The four-lane starting grid lets more advanced bikers quickly gain speed while the layout of the track allows children and beginners to use the easier sections.
Unique on the island, the track is certified for regional level competitions and has hosted high level competitions such as the 51st Finale des Jeux du Québec in 2016.
The BMX track is accessible to the public at no charge from sunrise to sunset, except for periods when The BMX Montreal club is holding events or classes (the club has priority on the track from May to October, Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.) If you’re interested in joining the club or learning more about lessons, visit their website at bmxmontreal.com
