ESPLANADE TRANQUILLE | Quartier des Spectacles

ESPLANADE TRANQUILLE | Quartier des Spectacles

Sports
Fun

We are blessed in Montreal with a plethora of public spaces, whether they be art galleries or sports centres. On Feb. 21, a new all-season destination in the Quartier des Spectacles will open to the public.

First announced by Valérie Plante last year, Esplanade Tranquille, is a public space inspired by urban backyards that will be the site for various cultural events. The space was named in honour of the Tranquille bookstore, formerly on the site, as a celebration of the city’s rich history. The Esplanade is a place to gather for families, tourists, and people of all age groups who wish to make the most out of the outdoors.

Immersive skating experience in winter

In the winter months, it will be a sprawling refrigerated skating rink illuminated by projections on the ice. Admission is free and skate rentals will be available on site. The rink can accommodate up to 400 skaters and reservations must be made online.

There will be an indoor space, almost like an urban chalet, where visitors can warm up and grab something to eat.

Activities continue in summer

In the warmer months, it will be converted into an urban terrace. Visitors can sunbathe, grab a snack, or attend a cultural event.

It can also serve as a  playground for children and families, with its grassy areas and water installations. See it like a big, communal back yard. Esplanade Tranquille is also conveniently located to many restaurants, terraces, and food markets, making it an accessible and family-friendly space all year long.

About Esplanade Tranquille

It is located in the centre of the Quartier des Spectacles, between Ste. Catherine St. and de Montigny St.
