Breathtaking New Cirque Show Welcomes Live Audiences July 1 at Markham Fairgrounds Canada's first ever physically distanced, COVID-safe Cirque Event is coming to Markham Fairgrounds this summer. Together Apart, Summer Cirque will bring guests together safely while also keeping them apart for the first live show in over a year! The event will feature jaw-dropping performances from Tony Award-winning creatives and world-renowned arts collective The 7 Fingers. The group has been redefining contemporary cirque-style entertainment since 2002. The Montreal-based creative collective of writers, directors, and choreographers merge acrobatics, theatre, dance, multimedia, music and storytelling to push the definition and potential of live performance. Together Apart Summer Cirque: A Summer Tale ― a never-before-seen outdoor, live theatrical cirque show is set to amaze audiences starting July 1, on Canada Day. Live, outdoor performances will run Thursday through Sunday nights, weekly until August 1 at the Markham Fairgrounds. The event is brought to you by The Concierge Club, producer of Toronto’s highly successful POLAR Drive-Thru event that took place in Toronto over the holidays. “Ontario has experienced some of the world’s most severe lockdowns and we’re staging an outdoor, safety-compliant, live entertainment event to bring some joy to everyone that has sacrificed so much,” says Monica Gomez, President and Founder, The Concierge Club. “Audiences can expect world-class production values in this breath-taking acrobatic theatre performance by Tony Award winning creatives. Together Apart Summer Cirque is my vote of confidence that after the long fight to curb COVID, Ontario will be ready for safety-compliant outdoor gatherings come Canada Day. Together Apart Summer Cirque: A Summer Tale A Summer Tale will take audiences into a fantasy world where the lives of 10 familiar, magical characters converge at a ball to celebrate the summer solstice. As they interact with one another in drama, delight, and acrobatic feats; an enchanting story unfolds. A sensation of sight, sound and emotion, A Summer Tale promises to dazzle audiences with heart-pounding cirque performances, stunning costume design, breathtaking staging, audience engagement and ruckus musical beats. Together Apart: Socially Distanced Audience Platforms Together Apart will adhere to health regulations set by the Ontario government, and masks will be required for entry. To maintain social distancing, individual private platforms that are completely spaced from one another will allow guests to be seated outdoors. Each can accommodate up to 5 people from the same bubble. Traffic flow guidelines will be implemented to avoid overcrowding and hand sanitization stations will be available. If further restrictions are imposed, the event will become a drive-in event. Tickets Early bird tickets are now available online while quantities last ($44, $52 and $60 per person). Regular ticket prices are: $65, $75 and $85 per person. A minimum of 4 tickets and a maximum of 5 tickets will be sold per platform. In the event of rain ― for performer safety and audience comfort, shows will be moved to alternate drier days. A portion of each ticket sold will go to Restaurants Canada's mental health and wellness initiative. Come to the table to show your support and book your tickets now!
The Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers, ages 3-5, inspires students to learn foundational music skills by playing games Even while our school is physically closed, our students are rocking virtually through the School of Rock Oak Park Remote Program! For young rockers ages 3-5, we offer group instruction called Little Wing where kids learn about all of the instruments, which is a great way to get started, even before private lessons. The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey and at School of Rock Oak Park. When it comes to toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music, this program is the perfect place to start. This hour-long virtual drop in class is entirely group based, so kids learn how to play in a band/group setting right from the start. All of our music programs for kids, teens, and adults are designed to help students gain musical proficiency. School of Rock Remote is no exception. If you would like to sign up for our monthly Little Wing program, your child will have access to one weekly group virtual rehearsal in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies Program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Creative Movement ActivitiesKeep your kids dancing at home with these fun shorter movement activities below! Activity Plan PDFs are linked below the videos and include in-depth instructions and ideas about how to connect movement to other important skill development. The Bounce Start by learning the basic bounce. This foundational movement will help you keep the beat and move with style. As you get the feel of the bounce, learn how to layer in your footwork and upper body to groove in your own freestyle. The Rock Now that you’ve learned the up and down motion of the bounce, learn the forward and back motion of the rock. Add in footwork like the outlaw step and the grapevine. Hands Did you know that a lot of hand movements in hip-hop are inspired by the gestures MCs would use while rapping? Use these hand gestures to add meaning and story to your movement. You can also try using angles to add emphasis. Party Dances 1 & 2 Did you know that a lot of hip-hop moves were originally done at parties in big groups before ever being done on the stage or in music videos? Learn the first three party dances: the Prep, the Biz Markee, and the Bart Simpson. Free Style Now it’s time for you to improvise. Use all of the movements and tools you’ve learned and put them together in your own unique way. Basic step Get started by learning the basic step. This foundational movement will help you find the beat. Imagine your floor is like the drum as you tap your feet in front of you. Then, build on the basic step by practicing it with a bounce and travelling. Footwork Now that you know the basic step, take it further by learning some different footwork variations. Make sure to balance out your movements by repeating everything on both sides. Travelling Did you know that almost all powwow dances travel in a clockwise direction? Use some of the footwork you already know to move through space. Crowhop Challenge Now that you’ve learned the powwow and hip-hop movements, follow along with Angela as she puts them together in the first half of the choreography. AND MANY MORE...
