Tours & Day Trips

Planet Ice: Mysteries of the Ice Ages will teach you about the important role ice has played in Earth’s history. Explore lost lands, learn about animal adaptations and more.

Explore more than 80,000 years of Earth’s history

Grab your heaviest parka and prepare for a chilly journey through time with Planet Ice: Mysteries of the Ice Ages!

Learn about the important role ice has played in Earth’s history as you explore lost lands, learn about animal adaptations and uncover geographical features formed by glaciers. This exciting exhibition produced by the Canadian Museum of Nature features more than 100 real specimens, models and artifacts, including animal fossils, ancient human tools and more.

Meet animals adapted for cold—some long extinct, others still alive today—and discover the lands lost long ago under the world's oceans. Through engaging exhibits, multimedia and more, explore Earth’s icy history as you reflect upon how human activity affects Planet Ice.

Journey from deep time to modern day in five themed zones

Your journey begins over 80,000 years ago. Learn about the power of ice, from how it forms to how it affected early life on Earth.

Move forward in time to encounter amazing adaptive creatures, like muskoxen, caribou and wolves. Remember to admire the woolly mammoths and Neanderthals—you won’t be seeing these extinct species anywhere else!

Next, head to the Lost Lands for a trip to Beringia, the land bridge that once joined Asia and North America.

From there, it’s just a skip, hop and a 20,000-year jump to the next stage of your journey, where you’ll witness the rise of the mastodon and the giant beaver, among other impressive animals.

Finish your adventure in the present day and learn how, for the first time in human history, we could soon be living on a planet with no polar ice sheets and no glaciers. How will this affect different species, infrastructures and ecosystems—and what can you do to help protect our planet?

Planet Ice: Mysteries of the Ice Ages will be at the Science Centre until March 20, 2022. Don’t miss your chance to experience this incredible exhibition.
