TOHU has put together a whole week of (mostly) free activities for March break that will help keep your little ones active and entertained. The activities are only accessible to residents of the island of Montreal.

Outdoor activities

Free loan of outdoor equipment

Let’s hope we get more snow because once again this year TOHU is offering free rentals of cross-country skis, snowshoes, and kites. Located right beside Frédéric-Back Park, families can pick up their equipment at TOHU and head to the park to ski or snowshoe along two combined nine-kilometre trails. Discover the park’s terrain, visit the large gazebo, and take in the impressive 360-degree city views and public artwork.

Daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Reservations are needed.

Children’s snowshoe courses

During this activity, a guide-animator will introduce kids to snowshoeing and nature while exploring Frédéric-Back Park. Kids will discover how certain animals have developed specific habits to adapt to winter and how certain plants and trees are able to survive the extreme cold. In French only.

Every day, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (except Mondays).
Reservations are needed.

Snow-sculpture activity

For the second year, TOHU is offering free snow-sculpting activities in its public square. This is a good opportunity to create a unique work of art. A pre-formed block of snow and disinfected tools will be made available to participants.

Every day, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
No reservations are needed.

Indoor activities

Dance workshops

Danser Le Trésor aims to make young people aware of contemporary dance with a workshop that is adapted for families. Led by professional dancers, the workshop appeals to the creativity and critical sense of young participants and places play and imagination at the centre. Presented in the form of a game, it is done in modules that condense physical, gestural and choreographic approaches.

Every day, from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Reservations are needed.

Circus Show — Le trésor

One rainy day, two siblings and their cat are stuck in the house, their noses glued to a window. Boredom quickly gives way to creativity that unfolds as if by magic before the eyes of the spectators. Le trésortakes an illuminating look at childhood and the joy, freedom and spontaneity of play.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 11 a.m. to noon.
Reservations are needed.

Movies

On the schedule for the week:

Tuesday: Terra Willy, planète inconnue
Wednesday: Les Aventures de Rémi
Thursday: Les oiseaux de passage
Friday: La guerre des tuques animée

Stories

The show Les Contes du Nord, presented by the Flexigloo troupe, brings together stories from various Nordic origins. The show highlights a culture common to those living in harsh climates, conveying values of collaboration through oral tradition. “Come and meet people who are not afraid of the cold and characters with beating hearts.” In French only.

Every day, from 2 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. / 2:40 p.m. to 3 p.m. / 3:20 p.m. to 3:40 p.m.
