EcoSpark’s Kids BioDiversity Training

EcoSpark’s Kids BioDiversity Training

Virtual Field Trips & Tours

Celebrate Earth Day with Idea Exchange and EcoSparks.

Learn how to tie a bowline knot, make a seed necklace, and share nature photos for science! In this virtual nature workshop for all ages (suggested grade 6 and up), participants will learn how to find and identify a wide variety of plants, insects and animals using interactive species ID apps and field guides in their own community. Participants have the option to try more projects and contribute outdoor nature observations following the training by exploring backyards, parks, or other areas near home and sharing observations—such as bird counts and plant photos—to online databases for citizen science. Explore local data with online maps and research connections between climate change and biodiversity.

To attend, please register in advance or go to Idea Exchange’s Facebook page to watch the video live at the scheduled time.

Note: Try our optional knot-tying activity by having a string about the length of a shoelace handy. Garden project ideas are introduced using household materials, but no materials are required. Participants will be introduced to optional family nature activities that use EcoSpark’s website and other free citizen science websites and apps, including Seek by iNaturalist.

This program is presented in connection with the City Nature Challenge 2021. Find out how you can help us identify plant, animal, and bug species in Waterloo Region by clicking here:https://inaturalist.ca/projects/city-nature-challenge-2021-region-of-waterloo
