FAMILY DAY GIANT DRAWINGS PARTY

All families are invited to a virtual drop-in drawing and collage party on Family Day, inspired by the new exhibition of Shuvinai Ashoona’s large-scale drawings. 

Bring paper, colouring pencils and more to this online all-ages gathering. Help us create a collection of new drawings, with the help of our artist-instructors, and then join us in presenting the first single day online pop-up exhibit of participant work at #AGOmakes. This is a drop-in event, so you can join us for 15 minutes or stay for as long as you'd like! 

Shuvinai Ashoona is the recipient of the 2018 Gershon Iskowitz Prize at the AGO. Celebrated for her large-scale drawings, enigmatic subject matter and collaborative work with contemporary artists, Shuvinai is a third-generation Inuit artist living in Kinngait, Nunavut. The dramatic changes in the North—the shift from life on the land to settled communities and access to popular culture—are reflected in her art, which challenges stereotypical notions of Inuit art. Increasingly, her constantly evolving work is included in national and international biennales and exhibitions such as Oh, Canada: Contemporary Art from North America in 2013 at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), and Unsettled Landscapes: SITElines: New Perspectives on Art of the Americas in 2014– 15 at SITE Santa Fe. Her exhibition at the AGO opens January 23, 2021.
