How to Make Sidewalk Chalk
General Crafts
As families look for safe outdoor Spring activities for kids, creating outdoor art with chalk is a great option. Take it a step further and make your own!
Here's a recipe that only requires a few simple ingredients.
Details:
You'll need:
- 1 cup plaster of Paris
- 1 cup water
- Powdered tempera paint
- Molds for chalk (small paper cups, paper rolls, popsicle molds, fun shapes)
- Mixing bowl and spoon
How to:
In a large bowl, mix the water and plaster of Paris together.
Add the powdered tempera paint.
Once the paint has been mixed in, let it sit for a few minutes.
Pour the mixture into a mold and let it dry. This can take several hours or up to a day, depending on the size of the mold.
Once dry, remove the chalk from the mold. If the chalk is still wet, let it air dry for another day or so.
Get creative and try working with different molds to give your chalk fun shapes. Silicon ice cube trays are a great option too!
